Checking if an account is demo or live

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am wondering if there is a reliable way of checking if an account is a demo account or a live one? In this old post here: http://faq.labs.cityindex.com/index.php?/topic/980-live-account-and-demo-account/?hl=%2Blive+%2Bdemo it is explained that we should look for the suffix "- Test" or "- Demo" on the LogonUserName in the AccountInformationResponseDTO.

This method works on this demo account:

DM806405
<password removed>

However, it does not work for this account:
tradableitest1@mailinator.com
<password removed>

The latter does not have any of the suffixes - but it IS a demo account. Is there something else I can look for?

Thanks,
Morten

Hi,

Since these are your own accounts you are using, would you not already know whether they are test or demo accounts??

The API isn't built to explicitly return this sort of information so there isn't another property you can read that would denote test/demo accounts.

Cordially,

PM!

DM is for Demo accounts only. However, you indicated in a prior post that you need to check demo/test accounts with logins such as:

tradableitest1@mailinator.com

Should you only have demo accounts with DM prefixes in the login name, then you could check for that in the credentials to determine demo/test account status.

Ok, thanks....but you CAN have demo accounts that do NOT have this prefix, right?

For instance this one:

login: 22041026

This has a single account with a code of 22041026....but it IS a demo account.

Ok.

This is a pretty big issue for us. What we do is a platform through which you can log in with your broker account and trade. We prefer to show in our GUI whether you are actually trading with real money or not, and also on our backend we have statistics for how many live/demo trades we get in. These things are not possible when we simply do not know whether an account is a live account or not.

Is there some channel through which we could request this feature?

It sounds like you're an institutional partner with us? Do you have a relationship manager or other account manager as your main point of contact with us?
They would normally be your main point of contact for issues such as this.

You can send me a PM if there is information that you'd like to keep confidential.
